David Hockney at the National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery presents the acclaimed exhibition David Hockney: Drawing from Life, which had a short run of just 20 days before the Gallery was forced to close due to Covid in March 2020. The exhibition delves into the artist’s extensive body of work spanning six decades, focusing on his intimate portrayals of five individuals: his mother, Celia Birtwell, Gregory Evans, Maurice Payne, and Hockney himself. With his deep connection to his sitters, Hockney showcases a diverse range of media and styles, including pencil, pen and ink, crayon, photographic collage and even iPad art. In addition, the 2023 exhibition will unveil a series of more than thirty new portraits, painted from life, of the artist’s friends and visitors to his studio in Normandy between 2021 and 2022.

The exhibition David Hockney: Drawing from Life will run from 2 November 2023 to 21 January 2024. Find out more details about the exhibition on the National Portrait Gallery website.
