Salon 94 presents Desire Path, a solo exhibition by Montreal-born artist Miles Greenberg, showcasing his first U.S. presentation focused entirely on sculpture. Running through February 15th, 2025, the show unveils a series of Carrara marble works that bridge Greenberg’s signature performance art with the permanence of classical materials.
The sculptures draw from Greenberg’s 2023 performance Fountain II, where the artist digitally mapped bodies in motion using a hacked 3D scanner that intentionally introduces errors. These scans were transformed into striking marble figures—carved from pink, black, and white stone at Monumental Labs and later hand-finished by Greenberg. The resulting pieces exude a haunting elegance, with distorted forms, embracing figures, and rivulets of quartz mimicking blood or tears, embodying both tenderness and transience.
The exhibition’s title, Desire Path, reflects the artist’s fascination with intuitive trajectories—those unofficial routes carved by repeated human movement. Greenberg likens this concept to the way performers synchronize on stage, leaving behind traces of their shared energy. This metaphor of connection, memory, and transformation is central to the works on view.
Complementing the sculptures are two nine-hour video installations: SEBASTIAN (2023), first performed at the Venice Biennale, and RESPAWN (2024), presented at the Art Gallery of Ontario. These durational pieces mirror the ritualistic, nonlinear logic that defines Greenberg’s practice, inviting audiences into a meditative exploration of form and decay.
Founder Jeanne Greenberg-Rohatyn describes the sculptures as compact expressions of pathos and gesture, likening them to reimagined fragments of Rodin’s masterpieces. Their textures and forms suggest a glitch-like vitality, merging classical elegance with a futuristic edge.
Desire Path invites viewers to experience the intersection of technology, performance, and sculpture, offering a profound reflection on time, memory, and the human body.
