Harry Lambert styling process

Before the final look: Harry Lambert’s new book celebrates the art of style

British stylist Harry Lambert opens his personal archive with Fittings & Sittings: The Practice of Style, a new Phaidon book due in March 2027. Featuring 200 previously unpublished photographs from his 15-year career, it offers an intimate look at the styling process, capturing the spontaneous moments behind fashion’s finished images.

The beauty of the in-between

Renowned for his work across music, film and fashion, Lambert has developed a distinctive visual language through red-carpet appearances, editorials, runway shows, campaigns and album covers. His book focuses on the creative process itself, revealing the experiments, decisions and unexpected encounters behind each look.

Originally taken by Lambert as working references for himself and his team, the photographs capture fittings and styling sessions on SELPHY prints. Free from professional staging, elaborate lighting and makeup, each image fills a page, preserving the immediacy of these intimate encounters.

Lambert calls these fleeting moments “the becoming” – when an idea takes shape, a look gains character and an outfit begins to tell its story. The result is a candid portrait of styling as a creative practice driven by curiosity, spontaneity and play.

A cast of characters, a wardrobe of possibilities

The book features an eclectic cast of models, actors and musicians, including Bad Bunny, Earl Cave, Emma Corrin, Alexa Chung, Josh O’Connor, Sienna Miller, Eddie Redmayne, Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Styles. Their wardrobes span designers and labels from Dior, Loewe and Miu Miu to Gucci and Zara.

From early red-carpet fittings to editorial experiments, the photographs trace the many expressions of personal style. Collectively, they offer a vivid record of Lambert’s collaborations and creative instincts, showing clothing as a powerful form of self-expression.

Beyond editorial and red-carpet styling, Lambert has worked with Adidas, Dior, Disney, Gucci, Harris Reed, Loewe, Pandora and Zara. He is also Co-Creative Director of gender-neutral beauty and lifestyle brand Pleasing, a Contributing Fashion Editor at British Vogue and an eBay Ambassador.

Published worldwide by Phaidon in March 2027, Fittings & Sittings: The Practice of Style is available for pre-order at Phaidon.com, with signed copies offered while stocks last.
