(LA) HORDE: Heureux sous son ombre

The Bass Museum of Art is set to host its first U.S. exhibition by the multidisciplinary dance collective (LA)HORDE, titled Heureux sous son ombre, from October 16th, 2024, to April 27th, 2025. (LA)HORDE, founded in 2013 by Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer, and Arthur Harel, directs the Ballet de Marseille and pushes the boundaries of classical dance by exploring how bodies are represented in public spaces, social networks, and on stage.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is the video installation Bondy (2017), which features a choreographic portrait of the Paris suburb of Bondy and its diverse residents, many of whom have no formal dance training. The project invited community members to film themselves dancing in locations of their choice, reflecting the collective’s interest in the intersection of everyday life and dance.

In addition to Bondy, two new sculptures commissioned by The Bass, HEUREUX SOUS SON OMBRE (2024) and Ghost Light, The Bass, Miami (2024), will be on view. These works explore themes of safety, civilization, and the social constructs that shape public spaces. This exhibition will showcase (LA)HORDE’s unique approach to dance and their thought-provoking exploration of contemporary societal issues.

Don’t forget to read our conversation with innovative collective (LA)HORDE as they share their insights on the ‘age of content’, their interdisciplinary approach to art and the poetic essence of their choreography.
