Mercer Labs, Museum of Art and Technology in New York, officially unveils its latest exhibition, Maestros and the Machines, on April 24th, 2025, at its 36,000-square-foot space in Lower Manhattan. Conceived and directed by artist Roy Nachum, the exhibition reimagines the timeless works of history’s great artists—like Mozart, Da Vinci, and Hokusai—through the lens of today’s most advanced technologies.
Visitors are invited to step beyond the gilded frame into a world where art breathes, shifts, and responds to their presence. The show features large-scale installations, infinity rooms, 360-degree projections, and interactive robotic sculptures. 4D soundscapes, crafted in collaboration with pioneering producer Timbaland, guide visitors through the evolving emotional landscape of the exhibition. One highlight is an infinity room inspired by Hokusai’s The Great Wave, where digital tides respond to audience movement. Another standout project reinterprets Da Vinci’s sketches as living, kinetic machines, blending old-world vision with futuristic innovation. A third installation reimagines Mozart’s compositions through generative sound algorithms, creating music that constantly transforms in real-time. Nachum explains that Maestros and the Machines is a dialogue between past mastery and future potential, where technology becomes an extension of creativity.
Mercer Labs, known for its interdisciplinary collaborations, continues to push the boundaries of art and technology with this ambitious project. Previous partnerships with artists like Alicia Keys and Dua Lipa highlight the institution’s commitment to innovation. Maestros and the Machines offers a glimpse into a future where art evolves alongside the tools we create—and the imagination we dare to unleash.
