The Fondation Louis Vuitton reaffirms its commitment to bringing contemporary art to a broad audience. From May 4th to September 9th, 2024, the Foundation will host an exhibition dedicated to Henri Matisse’s seminal 1911 masterpiece, The Red Studio, alongside a new retrospective featuring the works of Ellsworth Kelly (1923-2015), including paintings, sculptures, photographs, and drawings.
Organised by the Fondation Louis Vuitton in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, and the SMK – Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen, Matisse, The Red Studio focuses on the genesis and history of this famous 1911 masterpiece. The large canvas depicts the artist’s studio, filled with his paintings and sculptures, furniture and decorative objects. This exhibition reunites the works shown in The Red Studio for the first time since they left Matisse’s studio in Issy-les-Moulineaux.
On the occasion of the centenary of the artist’s birth, Ellsworth Kelly, Shapes and Colors, 1949-2015 is the first exhibition in France to offer a broad overview of the work of this major artist of the second half of the 20th century, both in terms of chronology and the media on display. Organised with the Glenstone Museum and in collaboration with the Ellsworth Kelly Studio, the exhibition brings together more than 100 works: paintings and sculptures as well as drawings, photographs and collages.
These exhibitions will take place at the Fondation Louis Vuitton and will be a highlight of the 2024 Spring Art Season.
