MUSIC OF THE MIND

In February 2024, Tate Modern will host the UK’s largest exhibition of the influential work of artist and activist Yoko Ono, covering seven decades of her multidisciplinary practice. Entitled YOKO ONO: MUSIC OF THE MIND, the exhibition will feature over 200 works, including educational pieces, installations, films, music, and photography, highlighting Ono’s radical approach to language, art, and participation. From her experimental avant-garde beginnings in New York and Tokyo to her influential work during her five-year residency in London, the exhibition explores Ono’s innovative concepts, expressed in poetic instructions and participatory artwork, and invites visitors to consider her anti-war stance and transformative creativity.

The exhibition will include a new version of Ono’s participatory installation My Mommy Is Beautiful, created in 2004. The installation allows visitors to attach photos of their mothers and share messages on a 15-metre wall of canvases. Yoko Ono is also extending her work beyond the walls of the Tate Modern, with interventions such as PEACE is Power on the gallery glass overlooking the Thames, and the interactive wish tree, which invites visitors to make a wish for peace.

The exhibition runs from February 15 to September 1, 2024. Find out more on the Tate website.
