On October 4th, 2024, the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv opened an exhibition showcasing the 21 shortlisted artists for the 7th edition of the Future Generation Art Prize. This prestigious global award, established by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in 2009, is designed to support and highlight the next generation of contemporary artists from around the world. The exhibition, which runs until January 19th, 2025, features newly commissioned works and recent projects from the shortlisted artists, reflecting their diverse cultural perspectives.

The artists represented in the exhibition hail from countries including Ukraine, Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia, each presenting unique explorations of identity, history, and resilience. Themes range from overcoming historical trauma and colonialism to collective healing, with many works addressing family ties, community solidarity, and the impact of war. Among the artists featured are Dana Kavelina (Ukraine), Sinzo Aanza (Congo), and Sandra Mujinga (Norway), who use mediums like installation, sculpture, and video to examine these pressing global issues.

The shortlist was selected by an international committee, while the prize winners will be decided by a distinguished jury, including Björn Geldhof, Artistic Director of the PinchukArtCentre, and other leading curators and critics. The main prize winner will receive $100,000 to further develop their artistic practice, while additional special prizes will also be awarded.

Check out our interview with Björn Geldhof, where he shares insights on the curatorial approach behind the From Ukraine: Dare to Dream exhibition, featured at the 2024 Venice Biennale.
