The exhibition Pier Paolo Pasolini: Porcili will take place at the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) from September 11th to November 10th, 2024. Curated by Giuseppe Garrera and Cesare Pietroiusti, the project explores Pasolini’s life and work, focusing on his depiction of the body (“corpo”) through a collection of photographs, films, newspapers and costumes.
Pasolini, a renowned Italian filmmaker, poet and intellectual, was known for his radical views, open homosexuality and membership of the Communist Party, which often provoked strong reactions within Italian society. His works challenged social norms and defended freedom of expression, despite the harsh persecution he faced, including legal battles, censorship and public ridicule. The exhibition highlights these struggles while honouring his unwavering commitment to self-determination and the celebration of the body. The title of the exhibition refers to Pasolini’s 1969 film Porcile (The Pigsty), a critique of the mechanisms of social control.
This retrospective is important for its in-depth exploration of Pasolini’s enduring legacy as one of the most provocative and influential figures of the 20th century.
