Reflecting space and time

Reflecting space and time

As part of a preview of his upcoming gallery in TriBeCa’s Clock Tower Building, Jack Scheinman unveiled part of the space that will feature Broken Spectre, a new film by Irish artist Richard Moss.

The film, about the devastating deforestation of the Amazon between 2018 and 2022, will be shown on a 60-foot-wide LED screen with immersive sound. Irish artist Richard Mosset’s film Broken Spectre engages in a metaphysical dialogue with the surrounding architecture. It epitomises Mosset’s commitment to the use of aggrandised media. This repurposing of technologies originally designed for economic, military or surveillance purposes to create complex expressive and conceptual frameworks in his work.

The building in which the gallery will be housed was formerly the New York Life Insurance Company, a symbol of American capitalism. Jack Scheinman seeks to place this landmark in a contemporary context, using the gallery to address important environmental and indigenous restitution issues.
