SpY unveils ‘MATRIZ,’ a site-specific installation in Hungary

Spanish artist studio SpY has introduced MATRIZ, a monumental site-specific installation that transforms the vast interior of a former turbine factory in Hungary. Presented during the 2025 edition of INOTA Festival, the work is on view inside the industrial landmark, where it redefines the architecture of emptiness through a delicate yet rigorous geometric structure.

Redefining space through geometry

At the heart of MATRIZ lies a three-dimensional grid of suspended black rectangular elements. Appearing to hover weightlessly, these forms organize the immense void into floating corridors and vertical alignments. The installation creates pathways that orient visitors without enclosing them, allowing movement to feel both directed and free.

Temporary architecture of perception

SpY designed the installation as an exploration of order and perception. By suspending the grid in equilibrium, the artist’s studio established a structure that imposes visual rhythm while remaining immaterial and functionless. Visitors walking through the space experience shifting perspectives: distances expand and contract, and proportions alter depending on movement and viewpoint.

With MATRIZ, SpY continues their investigation into the “temporary architecture of perception.” The installation transforms emptiness into a navigable landscape, where the dialogue between body and structure becomes central. Orientation, rhythm, and balance define the experience, turning simple suspended forms into a profound spatial encounter.
