Untamed Dance

Untamed Dance

Lenio Kaklea’s acclaimed performance Αγρίμι (Fauve) makes its UK debut at Sadler’s Wells, London, in partnership with the Serpentine, on October 31st and November 1st, 2024. Known for her innovative approach to dance and performance, the Greek artist, choreographer, and dancer explores themes of ecofeminism, queer identity, and the untamed human spirit in this bold production. Αγρίμι (Fauve) invites audiences to experience a “rewilding of bodies,” as three dancers, including Kaklea herself, explore connections between human and nature, blending movement with poetic symbolism.

In Αγρίμι (Fauve), Kaklea reimagines the forest as a setting for transformation, where dancers embody creatures existing between the human and natural worlds. Through rituals and choreography, she challenges Westernized perceptions of nature, presenting it as a space of wonder and danger where self and wildness coexist. The work questions the boundaries of domestication, encouraging viewers to consider the liberating power of untamed instincts.

Kaklea began her journey as an artist after leaving Greece to study in France and has become a notable figure in contemporary dance, known for pushing the boundaries of physical expression. Her work frequently addresses social and environmental themes, often incorporating literary influences to evoke powerful emotions. For this UK premiere, co-commissioned by the Serpentine, Kaklea deepens her exploration of intimacy and self-discovery.
