Yinka Ilori MBE will present a new participatory artwork created especially for Amos Rex in Helsinki

This summer, Amos Rex in Helsinki debuts a major new commission by celebrated British-Nigerian artist and designer Yinka Ilori MBE. Opening on June 20th, 2025, the project introduces a bold Yinka Ilori artwork that transforms the museum’s iconic domes on Lasipalatsi Square into a colorful, dynamic landscape. This large-scale participatory artwork invites the public into a space of interaction, movement, and shared experience—hallmarks of Ilori’s joyful creative vision.

Famed for his vibrant palette and patterns rooted in Nigerian heritage, Ilori brings his signature energy to Amos Rex in Helsinki, redefining how public art lives in everyday environments. The installation is part of the museum’s new annual summer series, a platform for global voices to engage with Helsinki’s cultural fabric. As a Yinka Ilori artwork, it fuses playfulness with purpose, offering a fresh take on how cities can foster connection through art.

Described by museum director Kieran Long as both “hopeful and provocative,” this participatory artwork is more than visual—it’s experiential, inviting viewers to step into a living dialogue between art and public space. With hundreds of thousands expected to visit, Amos Rex in Helsinki positions Ilori’s vibrant vision at the heart of the city’s summer—an open invitation to rethink, reconnect, and reimagine together.
