Seoul’s LOTTE Museum of Art is currently hosting a solo exhibition entitled Seoul 3024, featuring the work of acclaimed artist Daniel Arsham. The show is the first comprehensive display of Arsham’s two-decade career in Asia, and invites viewers into his unique concept of fictional archaeology. Through a captivating array of sculptures, paintings and installations, Arsham explores the relationship between past and future, presenting ordinary objects and cultural icons in a way that suggests they are relics of a time yet to come.
Works on view range from his Eroded Classical Sculpture series, inspired by works from the Louvre, to collaborations with popular franchises such as Pokémon. Visitors will also experience new works created especially for the exhibition, including a large-scale reconstruction of an archaeological excavation site. Key features of the exhibition include Arsham’s signature Future Relic objects, as well as early works and a film based on the same theme. In particular, four new paintings from his Fractured Idols series will be unveiled, along with insights into his artistic process through hotel drawings.
The immersive environment of Seoul 3024, designed to resemble a white excavation site, enhances the overall experience of viewing the works, which combine raw materials such as volcanic ash and calcite. This remarkable exhibition runs until October 13th, 2024, at the LOTTE Museum in Seoul’s Songpa district.
