Choreographer Damien Jalet and visual artist Kohei Nawa will present their latest collaboration, MIRAGE, at the 010 Theatre in Fukuoka. This captivating performance will run from September 27th to October 7th, 2024.
MIRAGE continues the duo’s exploration of the ever-changing nature of life, blending dance and visual art to create a sensory experience. Inspired by the optical illusions of mirages and the Japanese Kabuki technique of Hayagawari, the piece portrays humanity’s search for identity amidst shifting realities. The performance peels back layers of human experience to reveal a range of physical and emotional states. At times it evokes images of a civilisation on the brink, at others it bursts with the vibrant colours of tropical nature. Accompanied by 18 dancers from the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève and music by Thomas Bangalter, MIRAGE promises a hallucinatory and meditative journey.
This work is Jalet’s first creation for the Geneva Ballet and the fourth chapter in his decade-long collaboration with Nawa. Together they offer a profound exploration of the human essence, transcending appearances and delving into the heart of existence.
