Italian fashion house Miu Miu has announced the launch of the Miu Miu Women’s Tales Committee Project, a new initiative to support female creators in the film, literature, art, music, and fashion industries.
The committee will be composed of women from each of these fields who will work together to identify and nurture the motion picture industry with innovative and intellectually stimulating projects. The board of the Women’s Tales project will include Miuccia Prada and Verde Visconti, the co-founders of the project, as well as award-winning director Ava DuVernay, actress and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal, and costume and production designer Catherine Martin.
“Cinema has been a long time passion and has also been an important backbone of my education,” said Prada. “With the Tales we created a platform for talented directors: through their gaze we have opened a conversation on the world of femininity and vanity and what it means today. A conversation with women about women.”
The 26th chapter of the Miu Miu Women’s Tales series, STANE, directed by Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, premiered as part of the opening committee programme at the Venice Film Festival’s Giornate Degli Autori on September 3, 2023. The film stars Danica Curcic and Jasna Đuričić and explores the main societal questions of the modern world, where traditional patriarchal expectations are broken and reality comes to the foreground.
Kusijanović builds the character of Stane first, embracing not only her power but also her sensuality, as she believes that It is a crucial phenomenon that “needs to breathe through everything.” For more details, watch Antoneta’s interview on the official Miu Miu YouTube channel.
The Miu Miu Women’s Tales Committee Project offers a great opportunity for contemporary female creators to bring their films to the global stage and have their voices heard. Visit the official Miu Miu website to learn more about the future of the programme.
