The winners of the second annual BFI and CHANEL Filmmaker Awards were announced, celebrating the innovative storytelling of three promising British filmmakers. Ella Glendining, the writer and director of Is There Anybody Out There and its talented cast, was one of the winners. Savanah Leaf, the multi-talented writer, director and producer of Earth Mama, was also a winner. In addition, Nadira Murray, the accomplished producer of Winners, joined the esteemed list of winners.
Launched in partnership between CHANEL and the BFI in 2022, these awards are a testament to CHANEL’s longstanding commitment to supporting the arts and the BFI’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of independent British filmmakers. Through these awards, both organizations aim to nurture creativity, encourage new talent, preserve cinematic heritage and shape the future of the industry.
These awards celebrate the audacity and ingenuity of filmmakers while providing them with a significant financial boost of £20,000 each. This financial support will enable the winners to expand their creative practice, explore innovative ideas, encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing, and promote greater diversity and inclusivity in today’s cultural landscape. The 2023 winners have been selected by a distinguished panel of judges including Tilda Swinton, Academy Award-winning actress, BFI Fellow and Global CHANEL Ambassador; Edward Enninful OBE, Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue and European Editorial Director of Vogue; Marie-Louise Khondji, producer and founder of Le Cinéma Club; and Ben Roberts, Chief Executive of the BFI.
