Breathtaking stained glass windows

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has acquired a historic stained glass window by Tiffany called Garden Landscape (1912). It was commissioned by philanthropist Sarah B. Cochran, known as the Coal Queen, for her estate, Linden Hall.

The window, a rare creation by women from conception to manufacture, was designed by Agnes Northrop, one of Tiffany & Co’s key designers. Northrop, who led the group of Tiffany Girls, began working for Tiffany in the 1880s. The design of the window, using leaded Favrile glass, reflects Linden Hall’s garden and Northrop’s innovative approach was influenced by the American Impressionists.
