BAFTA and dunhill have announced a new two-year partnership to launch an expanded BAFTA Elevate programme aimed at mid-to-senior level creatives in the documentary and specialist factual fields. The programme will support up to 20 underrepresented producers, directors, and development producers working in these genres. The initiative is designed to offer career development opportunities to individuals from minority ethnic, disabled, or low socio-economic backgrounds.
The programme aims to address barriers to progression highlighted by BAFTA’s research, which revealed the challenges underrepresented talent face in accessing industry opportunities. Participants will receive mentorship, networking opportunities, and professional development, as well as exposure to BAFTA’s global community of over 12,000 creative professionals.
BAFTA Elevate is supported by leading industry figures, including award-winning documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia and broadcaster Reggie Yates. Kapadia emphasized that the programme gives voices from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to tell unique stories and challenge industry norms. Reggie Yates praised the programme for empowering emerging talent by providing the necessary industry connections and support.
Applications for BAFTA Elevate are now open and will be accepted until October 18th, 2024. The final cohort of participants will be unveiled in February 2025 at dunhill’s annual Pre-BAFTA dinner and party.
