Luxury house Chanel is investing in the future of art and technology with a major initiative at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Funded by Chanel’s Culture Fund, the new Chanel Center for Artists and Technology will explore the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital imaging.
This groundbreaking project, the first of its kind at an independent art school, will support dozens of new roles and fellowships for artists, technologists-in-residence, and graduate students. Alongside new cutting-edge equipment and software, the center aims to reshape how art schools engage with technology. CalArts, known for training leading figures across visual arts, film, and music, has long embraced risk and innovation. Chanel’s partnership marks one of the largest corporate investments in the school’s history. The center will also host an annual forum addressing the evolving relationship between artists and new technologies. Building on Chanel’s global cultural partnerships, this initiative reflects the brand’s deep commitment to empowering creative agency. With this project, Chanel and CalArts are daring artists to own the future.
