Listening to water

Listening to water

CLAMS, an installation by media artist Marco Barotti, is a series of kinetic sound sculptures that convert real-time water quality data into sound and movement. Each sculpture, built from recycled plastic and containing a speaker, mimics the natural filtration role of clams, responding to data collected from local water sources. As water quality fluctuates, the sculptures create an evolving soundscape and perform life-like opening and closing motions. This sensory installation draws attention to environmental changes, blending media art with data sonification to raise awareness of water purity. CLAMS was exhibited at the Italian Pavilion of the Gwangju Biennale 2023, at the Dong-gok Museum of Art.
