Dover Street Market Paris has unveiled a new courtyard installation titled SIX by COMME des GARÇONS, conceived by the legendary designer Rei Kawakubo. The installation celebrates the brand’s experimental spirit and highlights the influential role of SIX Magazine, a publication that shaped Comme des Garçons’ creative universe.
The courtyard concept explores the idea of the “sixth sense” — an intangible perception beyond the five traditional senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. Kawakubo’s installation invites visitors to engage with this notion, offering a multisensory experience that blends space, art, and the conceptual ethos of the brand.
Originally published between 1988 and 1991, SIX Magazine served as a revolutionary platform for experimentation. Rather than focusing directly on Comme des Garçons’ clothing, the biannual publication incorporated diverse artistic works, photography, and contributions from creators outside the fashion industry. This approach not only expanded the boundaries of fashion communication but also established Comme des Garçons as a fully realized aesthetic universe.
The installation at Dover Street Market Paris, which runs from 2026 to 2027, offers a unique opportunity to experience the spirit of SIX Magazine firsthand, reflecting the brand’s continued influence on contemporary fashion and culture.
